Volunteer at DRI2013

3 27 2013 Volunteer at DRI2013This year DRI International’s conference, DRI2013, will be in the vibrant city of Philadelphia.  As is the case in most large metropolitan cities and suburbs in the United States, in Philadelphia there are people in need of a kind, supportive, compassionate helping hand when times are tough. The DRI Foundation, of which I am a proud board member and  director of volunteerism, was founded to put helping hands in places where they are most needed.  Last year’s Volunteer Day in New Orleans put more than 80 DRI volunteers to work building a home and working in a community food bank.

One of this year’s volunteer opportunities also involves a food bank.  On Tuesday June 4, we will send a group to work at Philabundance. This work assignment will run from 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.  We will provide lunch and transportation to and from the Hunger Relief Center location in Philadelphia.  We have space for only 50 volunteers for this rewarding work experience; so register for DRI2013 right away and get your name on the Philabundance volunteer roster.  You will be sorting and packaging food and household supplies for people in the area.

If you prefer to work a full day, ( type construction or working in the Habitat Restore), I will be providing details about that type of opportunity next week.  Right now, I can tell you that we will have only 40 spots up for grabs.

As we did last year, all volunteers will experience a getting-to-know-you, informational “pep rally” the night before our work, a dinner, lunch and a goody bag full of useful surprises.

I know that I can count on you… and that I can count on beating last year’s headcount, which is my personal goal.  Let’s achieve it together!

Have a great week!
