Habitat for Humanity Volunteer Project

3 20 2013 Habitat for Humanity Volunteer ProjectI hope you all had a good week. Here in New York we had yet another snow storm. I, for one, am tired of this winter weather and am anxiously awaiting sunshine in the City of Brotherly Love at DRI2013 in June. And what better way to enjoy the sunshine than to get out of the hotel and conference center and participate in Volunteer Day?

Last week, I told you about the half-day volunteer opportunity with Philabundance, a very large and respected food bank serving the Philadelphia area.  The full-day project will be with Habitat for Humanity of Philadelphia, which will run from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  You can expect to work either at theHabitat Restore, which will involve organizing and readying donated building materials and household products for re-sale and distribution to those in need within the community, or at a Habitat site doing light cleanup, construction, or painting. For both volunteer efforts, transportation and lunch will be provided.

As with any construction or labor-intensive project, please wear appropriate clothing. Jeans are good.  Flip-flops are bad. You get the idea.  The most important thing you’ll be wearing is a smile, and don’t forget to bring an abundance of energy and a genuine desire to make a difference!

Stay tuned to Clyde’s Corner for more tips and information about safe participation in the volunteer efforts and getting the most out of your volunteer experience. The first step in volunteering is to register now for DRI2013.

I am looking forward to seeing you in Philadelphia in June.   Have a great week.

All the best,

Clyde

P.S. I am also putting together a list of other volunteer opportunities that you may explore on your own, either before or after the conference.  I will prescreen the organizations and give them a heads up about our DRI volunteers.  Contact me for details. Thanks!
